Robert Whittaker Vs Yoel Romero Is Now A Non-Title Fight

Yoel Romero’s failure to make weight for tonight’s UFC 225 main event against Robert Whittaker has led to a major change in the stakes for the eagerly awaited rematch.

The 41-year-old Romero came in a pound overweight at the first attempt yesterday in Chicago, and despite being given two hours to cut that extra 1lb, ‘The Soldier Of God’ still came in 0.2lbs over at the second attempt.

As such, the fight will no longer be for the title, and so Whittaker will remain the champion even if he is defeated, but nevertheless he has agreed to still compete against Romero anyway.

This is not the first time Romero has missed weight when a title has been on the line as last time out he came in over the limit for an interim middleweight title fight with Luke Rockhold and as such was inelligible to win that too, even though he eventually went on to win by a third round KO.

Whittaker Vs Romero remains the main event for tonight’s UFC 225 show in Chicago, and there will still be a title on the line in the co-main event as Colby Covington and Rafael dos Anjos battle for the interim welterweight strap.
