Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza showed off his world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills tonight at UFC 208 as he tapped out Tim Boetsch with a kimura in the first round.
Round One:
Jacare taking the center of the Octagon to start the fight. He lands a push kick to the body. Leg kick for Boetsch.
Straight right for Jacare and then launches into a takedown attempt from range. Boetsch able to stuff that, but Jacare remains in the clinch. They jockey for position and Boetsch is able to peel away, throwing a hook as he does.
Low kick for Boetsch. Leg kick for him and a right hand counter from Jacare. Body punch for Jacare lands solidly. Big punch from Boetsch backs up Jacare for a moment.
Another body punch for Jacare. Leg kick for Boetsch, but Jacare counters by taking him down. Jacare in side control. Bad spot for Boetsch with over two minutes to go in the round.
Jacare temporarily in half guard, but then nicely moves into full mount. The BJJ master suddenly pounces on a kimura and almost immediately has Boetsch in serious trouble as he cranks on that limb and ‘The Barbarian’ is forced to frantically tap due to the pressure on his shoulder with 3.41mins on the clock.
It was widely expected that Jacare would win tonight, but it’s still impressive how easily he was able to get the job done and he’s now won seven of his eight fights in the UFC. How much longer can he be denied a title shot?
