Rose Namajunas Booked For December 30th Grappling Match vs. Gillian Robertson

Former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas will compete before the end of the year, but it won’t be in the Octagon.

Instead, the 30-year-old Namajunas has signed up for a grappling match against fellow UFC fighter Gillian Robertson at FURY 6 on December 30th, which will air live on the UFC Fight Pass subscription service.

“Competing in grappling was one of a few different goals I had for myself before I were to compete in fighting again,” Namajunas said in a statement. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity to compete for FURY grappling. I’m very excited.”

Namajunas lost her 115lb title to Carla Esparza via split decision back in May, bringing to an end a three fight winning streak which had seen her beat Jessica Andrade and then claim back-to-back victories over Weili Zhang.

Meanwhile the 27-year-old Robertson has won two of her last three fights, and both came by way of submission against Priscila Cachoeira and Mariya Agapova.

“It’s great to be back with FURY for another extremely high profile card,” Robertson said. “I am thankful for the opportunity to share the mat with such a notable opponent like Rose Namajunas.”

Namajunas vs. Robertson will join a number of UFC fighters on the grappling-only card, which also includes Clay Guida vs. Chase Hooper, Joe Pyfer vs. Eryk Anders, Andre Petroski vs. Ovince Saint Preux and Pat Sabatini vs. Alex Caceres.
