An immediate strawweight title rematch between newly crowned champion Rose Namajunas and Joanna Jedrzejczyk has been confirmed for the co-main event of UFC 223 on April 7th in Brooklyn, New York.
Namajunas stunned the long-time queen of the division back at UFC 217 in November, taking just over three minutes to TKO Jedrzejczyk, handing her the first loss of her 15-fight career.
Given the dominant nature of ‘Thug’ Rose’s victory there was some talk that perhaps an immediate rematch wouldn’t be granted.
However, given that Jedrzejczyk had already compiled five successful title defenses against top divisional talent like Claudia Gadelha (twice), Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, it seems the UFC have deemed that the Polish ace has earned the right to try to reclaim the belt.
“Book the date 4/7/18☝🏼 I’m taking back what belongs to me!🤫 The belt is commin’ to Poland again!🇵🇱 @ufc #TheQueenIsBack,” Jedrzejczyk wrote on Twitter after the fight was officially announced yesterday.
Meanwhile, the champion was making no such promises, but sounded just as eager to prove that her first victory was no fluke.
“THUG ROSE IS COMIN TO BROOKLYN!!! CANT WAIT!!!,” Namajunas wrote.
Namajunas Vs Jedrzejczyk II will serve as the lead-in to the UFC 223 main event between interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov, making this a card that no self-respecting MMA fan will want to miss.
