Shane Burgos Issues Statement After Scary TKO Loss

Shane Burgos suffered one of the most bizarre TKO losses in UFC history this past weekend when he ate a punch from Edson Barboza that took a few seconds to register, before he suddenly staggered backwards, landed against the cage and then sunk face down onto the mat.

Some fans were concerned for Burgos safety afterwards, but thankfully he does appear to be ok and has issued a statement to give his thoughts on the way the fight went.

““Overwhelmed by all the love and support I’ve been getting,” Burgos wrote. “This sport can bring the highest highs of highs and the lowest of lows. Disappointed is an understatement for how I’m feeling but it is what it is, all I can do is learn and grow from it.

“Gonna take some time off to spend with my wife and daughters but excited to get back in there later in the year and show a better version of myself. It was an honor to share the cage with @edsonbarbozajr it was his night and he has all my respect!

“Thank u to my team, family, friends and all the fans for the support. This is all part of God’s plan and I trust it. I will keep chasing greatness.. #AlwaysForward”

Burgos has now suffered back-to-back losses in the Octagon, but was on a three-fight winning streak prior to that and currently holds an overall 6-3 record in the promotion.
