Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua has suffered a knee injury that’s forced him out of his main event clash with Ovince St. Preux at UFC Fight Night 117 in Japan next weekend.
However, the UFC have managed to find a worthy replacement on short notice, with a familiar face now set to return to the Octagon in the shape of Yushin Okami.
Okami enjoyed a long run in the UFC between 2006-2013, and having compiled a 13-5 record during that period it was somewhat of a shock when he was suddenly cut from the promotion after a loss to Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, despite having won three fights prior to that.
The Japanese star then moved on to the WSOF promotion (now known as PFL), and at 36-years-old he is currently on a four-fight winning streak as he makes his return to the Octagon.
Meanwhile, OSP got back to winning ways earlier this year with a Von Flue choke against Marcos Rogerio de Lima, which brought an end to a disappointing three-fight losing run.
With Okami Vs OSP set the card now proceeds with 11 fights, including a co-main event featuring Claudia Gadelha Vs Jessica Andrade, Takanori Gomi Vs Dong Hyun Kim and the debut of kickboxing star Gokhan Saki Vs Henrique da Silva.
