Stefan Struve Vs Alexander Volkov To Headline UFC Fight Night: Rotterdam

A heavyweight fight between Stefan Struve and Alexander Volkov has been announced as the headliner for ‘UFC Fight Night: Rotterdam’ on September 2nd.

By the time the fight comes around it’ll have been almost a year since Struve last fought as he’s been kept from getting back into the Octagon due to a shoulder injury.

Prior to that he had notched up back-to-back wins, defeating Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva by KO and then Daniel Omielanczuk via a d’arce choke submission.

That leaves Struve ranked No.11 in the division, just one spot behind former Bellator heavyweight champion Volkov, who is also riding a two-fight winning streak since joining the UFC last year.

Volkov began his campaign in the Octagon with a split decision win over Timothy Johnson last year, and has since also earned a unanimous decision victory over Roy Nelson.

Struve Vs Volkov is the only fight so far announced for the Rotterdam show, which will mark the UFC’s second trip to the Netherlands, having led with another heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Andrei Arlovski in the same city last year with over 10,000 fans in attendance.

The UFC’s visit to Rotterdam is one of five events scheduled for Europe so far in 2017, with UFC Fight Night: London already in the books and an event in Stockholm, Sweden set for tomorrow night, while there are also trips to Scotland and Poland in the works later this year.
