Stephen Thompson Calls Out Leon Edwards; Khamzat Chimaev Steps In To The Fray

Stephen Wonderboy Thompson

One of the sports good guys Stephen Thompson tried his hand at making a call-out in the nicest possible way yesterday when he targeted a fight with Leon Edwards.

“All due respect @Leon_edwardsmma , which I have a lot of for you, I have been saying I would like to fight you for a while now!” Thompson said on Twitter. “It makes sense and would be a great match up.

“I think that was my first Twitter call out ever. man that felt weird. #FirstTimeForEverything.”

Meanwhile, Khamzat Chimaev is only days removed from a stunning 17 second KO victory over Gerald Meerschaert and is now preparing for another fast turnaround against Demian Maia on Fight Island in October, but it seems he also has ‘Wonderboy’ in his sights too.

“We fighting next lets go leave Leon alone,” Chimaev wrote.

This surely must be infuriating for Edwards, who is currently ranked No.3 in the division after compiling an 8-fight winning streak in which he’s defeated the likes of Donald Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson and Rafael dos Anjos, yet in 2020 he keeps getting overlooked for big fights and as such hasn’t fought in over a year.

So far Edwards hasn’t responded to either Thompson’s callout or Chimaev’s intervention, but at the weekend he was trying to make moves by targeting another major welterweight star Colby Covington.

“Dont worry I’ll take out the racist scumbag, December,” Edwards had wrote on Twitter. “Let’s see if @ColbyCovMMA joins the “I won’t fight Leon club” and goes running like the rest of them.”
