After Angela Hill was forced out of this weekend’s UFC 256 event due to testing positive for Covid-19, her opponent Tecia Torres will now get a chance to remain on the card against a late replacement in the shape of Sam Hughes.
Known as ‘Sampage’, the 28-year-old Hughes is a UFC newcomer who is relatively young in her MMA career with a 5-1 record to date.
She has been plying her trade in the LFA promotion, where she’s gone 2-1 in 2020 and is coming off a guillotine choke victory back in October.
This will be a major step up in competition for Hughes though as she’s going up against a far more experienced UFC veteran in Torres, who has been with the promotion for six years.
That being said, ‘The Tiny Tornado’ actually suffered four decision defeats in a row between 2018-2019, but she’s rebounded this year with a win on the scorecards against Brianna Van Buren, taking her overall UFC campaign to 7-5.
Torres vs. Hughes remains on the preliminary portion of the card, while as things stand the five-fight pay-per-view line-up remains unchanged and will be headlined by a flyweight title fight between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno, with Tony Ferguson vs. Charles Oliveira serving as the co-main event.
