The Korean Zombie Suffers Injury; Ricardo Lamas Fight Scrapped

‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung has been forced out of his fight with Ricardo Lamas at UFC 214 on July 29th in Anaheim, California after picking up an injury.

Jung is reported to have suffered a knee injury that will require him to undergo surgery next week and he’ll then be out of action for a further six months recouperating.

That’s disappointing news as ‘The Korean Zombie’ had not long since returned to the Octagon after a two-year absence due to undergoing compulsory military service in his native South Korea.

The 30-year-old had made an immediate impact in his comeback fight against Dennis Bermudez back in February, knocking him out in the first round, which led to him being reinstalled as the No.5 contender in the UFC’s official featherweight rankings.

With Jung out, the UFC are now on the hunt for a new opponent for Lamas, who is coming off a submision win over Charles Oliveira in November of last year and is currently ranked No.3 in the division.

For the time being UFC 214 proceeds with a main event light-heavyweight title rematch between bitter rivals Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones, while Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino will fight an as yet unnamed opponent, Renan Barao goes up against Aljamain Sterling and Jimi Manuwa locks horns with Volkan Oezdemir.
