UFC 222 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 222 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the entertaining main card battle between Sean O’Malley and Andre Soukhamthathath.

In the first two rounds O’Malley put on an impressive striking clinic, but despite being in some trouble Soukhamthath hung in there. Then in the third round O’Malley appeared to break his foot after a head kick and was left operating on one leg. Strangely, Soukhamthath opted to go for takedowns and so O’Malley was able to survive and emerge with a decision victory.

Brian Ortega earned himself a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus in spectacular fashion after becoming the first man ever to knockout Frankie Edgar.

Ortega first hurt Edgar with a well timed elbow and then followed up with a series of strikes as his dazed opponent tried to regain his bearings. Then Ortega took a step back and unleashed a thunderous uppercut that practically took his opponent off his feet for the KO finish.

Earlier in the evening, Alexander Hernandez put his name on the map with a swift KO finish over Beneil Dariush, landing a big punch just 42 seconds into the first round that ended the fight.
