Following last night’s UFC 243 event in Melbourne the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was an all-out slugfest between Brad Riddell and Jamie Mullarky in the prelims.
Both fighters repeatedly blasted each other with big shots throughout the fight, with Riddell getting the best of it, but Mullarky showing exceptional heart and toughness to make it to the final bell.
Meanwhile, Israel Adesanya earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award for his title winning KO victory over Robert Whittaker midway through the second round.
Whittaker had repeatedly taken the fight to the challenger, but in a somewhat reckless fashion that left him vulnerable to counters and to make life more difficult Adesanya was proving to be a hard target to reach.
As the fight went on Adesanya started to dial in his counters and that paid off after he ate a good punch from Whittaker, but was then able to land a big hook that sent him reeling backwards onto the mat badly hurt, and a few punches later it was all over.
Earlier, Yorgan de Castro demolished Justin Tafa with a single blistering punch that landed just before his opponent’s and sent him falling unconscious in a heap at his feet.
