UFC 272 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC 272 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Despite some leaning towards the co-main event between Rafael dos Anjos and Renato Moicano as a ‘Fight of The Night’ candidate, in the end the UFC opted for the main event pairing of Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal instead after their five rounder.

For the most part the story of the fight was Covington dominating via his clinch work, takedowns and top control, while Masvidal’s biggest moment came in the fourth round when a hard right hook completely buckled his rival’s knees, though he somehow managed to stop himself from being knocked down and would battle back to secure a convincing unanimous decision victory.

Kevin Holland took home one of the two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards after he TKO’d Alex Oliveira on the main card.

Holland didn’t have it all his own way in the first round as Oliveira traded with him on the feet and also looked to test him on the mat, but early in the second round he was able to drop Oliveira with a short punch that sent him staggering backwards onto the mat, with a hail of punches and elbows on the mat sealing the TKO stoppage soon after.

Also earning a performance bonus was Maryna Moroz who secured a second round arm-triangle submission win over Mariya Agapova and then made an emotional post-fight statement as she condemned Russia’s invasion of her homeland, Ukraine.
