Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 123 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the evening’s headliner between Brian Ortega and Cub Swanson.
For much of the fight it proved to be a striking battle, with Swanson getting the better of it with his seasoned stand-up skills, though Ortega was keeping things competitive.
However, the two biggest moments in the fight were undoubtedly late in the first round when Ortega suddenly dropped to the mat with a guillotine choke from the clinch that Swanson only seemed to survive due to the round ending, and then mid-way through the second when he again wrapped up the guillotine choke from a clinch, jumped up with it and forced a frantic tap-out from his opponent.
Brian Ortega’s lightning quick application of the submission and the way he adjusted his grip to cinch it in even tighter was all very impressive and helped him also scoop up one of the two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards as well.
The other ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was a no-brainer as Marlon Moraes produced a devastating knockout against Aljamian Sterling in the co-main event, with his unfortunate opponent going in for a takedown just as he was launching a kick, which resulted in him ducking straight into ‘Magic’s’ knee, rendering him unconscious for several minutes afterwards.
