The UFC Fight Night 172 card on May 16th is starting to fill up and it includes a fresh match-up for Edson Barboza against Dan Ige.
The fight marks the Brazilian striker’s first fight at featherweight after suffering an uncharacteristically rough period at lightweight in which he lost four of his last five bouts, albeit against some of the division’s elite competition in Khabib Nurmagomdedov, Kevin Lee, Justin Gaethje and Paul Felder.
Nonetheless, with his sole win during that period coming against Dan Hooker in late 2018, Barboza now wants to reset at 145lbs, where he’ll come up against an in-form Ige, who has racked up five wins in a row in the division, including victories over the likes of Kevin Aguilar and Mirsad Bektic.
Meanwhile, the card will also feature a rescheduled fight between Eryk Anders and Krzysztof Jotko, which was originally supposed to happen on April 11th.
Anders is coming into the fight off the back of a two-fight winning streak, as is Jotko, so they’ll both be hoping a win could get them closer to a top-15 spot on the middleweight rankings.
Barboza vs. Ige and Anders vs. Jotko join a UFC Fight Night 172 card that will be headlined by Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris.
