UFC Fight Night 179 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s action-packed UFC Fight Night 179 event on Fight Island the UFC brass had a tricky decision to make regarding who should win the $50,000 bonus awards.

With so many memorable finishes to choose from that mean the usual ‘Fight of The Night’ bonus was cast aside in favor of four ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards.

Of course it was inevitable that Joaquin Buckley was among the winners as his knockout finish of Impa Kasanganay in the prelims became an instant classic and has gone viral after being declared as one of the most unbelievable endings to a fight in UFC history!

The unfortunate Kasanganay must have thought he was doing well when he managed to catch one of his opponents kicks during the fight. However, remarkably from that awkward position Buckley managed to jump into a spinning heel kick that landed flush to the face and caused a delayed reaction as Kasanganay stood still for a moment and then slowly crashed to the canvas unconscious. Unbelievable stuff.

There was another highlight reel stoppage in the main event too when Cory Sandhagen loudly called out that he’d broken Marlon Moraes orbital bone with a kick, and then moments later proceeded to throw a spinning hook kick that landed to the top of his opponents head and sent him falling backwards onto the mat, where follow up strikes quickly sealed the second round TKO stoppage.

Two swift stoppages rounded up the bonus awards, with Chris Daukaus getting his performance bonus after TKO’ing Rodrigo Nascimento in just 45 seconds, while Tom Breese uncorked a powerful jab to drop KB Bhullar en-route to his 1.42min TKO victory.
