Following last night’s UFC fight Night 184 event in Las Vegas the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was a rematch that always looked like being one of the best bouts on the card between Beneil Dariush and Diego Ferreira.
As expected this was a closely fought affair with both men having their moments, but Dariush was the heavier handed striker and had Ferreira hurt with a knee to the body at one stage, while he also had some success with takedowns and top control, despite his opponent’s crafty Jiu-Jitsu skills, leading to a split decision victory.
Alexander Volkov earned one of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards after he pulverized Alistair Overeem with powerful, accurate blows to the head in the early rounds of their main event battle.
The mostly tentative Overeem’s face became an increasingly bloody mess in the second round, before he was sent staggering to the mat courtesy of a left hook that ended the fight by TKO.
Meanwhile, Cory Sandhagen richly deserved his performance bonus after he delivered a stunning flying knee to the chin of Frankie Edgar in the co-main event that knocked him out cold just 28 seconds into the contest.
There was some concern for Edgar afterwards as he lay unconscious, but thankfully he came too and was back on his feet by the time the result was being read out.
