Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 198 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced, and after a relatively action-light series of bouts the promotion took the unusual step of only dishing out three instead of the usual four.
The ‘Fight Of The Night’ was a good one though, with Adrian Yanez and Davey Grant engaging in an all-action striking battle that saw Yanez being the more clinical and harder-hitting technician, but Grant keeping things interesting with his constant unorthodox and unpredictable attacks throughout the 15 minute encounter. In the end it seemed that Yanez had done enough to win, though he had to settle for a split decision after one judge went all-in on his opponent (27-30, 29-28 x2).
Meanwhile, the solitary ‘Performance Of The night’ award was also well earned as Taila Santos clocked in her most impressive performance to date, managing to drop the normally durable Joanne Wood with her fast-powerful striking and then locked in a rear-naked choke submission before the end of the first round.
The rest of the card featured wall-to-wall decisions, and with none particularly standing out from the crowd the UFC brass made it clear they weren’t particularly happy about it by leaving the other performance bonus unclaimed.
