UFC Fight Night 223 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 223 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

On this occasion four ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards were handed out, including one for main event winner Song Yadong, who showed off his sharp technical striking ability throughout his fight against Ricky Simon.

Yadong was consistently able to counter Simon as he was coming into range, and late in the fourth round he perfectly set a trap for his opponent by luring him into a left hook counter that floored him just before the round ended.

Then early in the fifth Yadong again found a home for the left hook on the counter to seal a well-earned TKO victory.

Caio Borralho also took home a performance bonus in the co-main event after bringing Michal Oleksiejczuk down in the second round and taking his back in order to sink in a fight-ending rear-naked choke.

Rodolfo Vieira got back in the win column after Cody Brundage made the mistake of going to the mat with a guillotine attempt early in the second round, which the BJJ ace was able to break free from and then make him pay, setting him up an arm-triangle submission finish soon afterwards.

And in the prelims Marcus McGhee also earned a performance bonus after he dropped Journey Newsome in the second round with a straight and then seized upon a rear-naked choke submission to seal a win in his promotional debut.
