Following last night’s UFC On ESPN 1 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was a main card slugfest between Vicente Luque and Bryan Barberena. Barberena showed incredible toughness during the fight, eating huge shots from Luque repeatedly, yet still remaining on his feet and firing back with plenty of strikes of his own.
In the dying seconds of the fight it looked like the two warriors were headed to a decision, but then Luque managed to land two huge knees to the head that finally sent Barberena falling forward to the mat, with follow-up strikes sealing a TKO victory just 6 seconds from the final bell.
The fight produced a UFC record for the most punches in a three round welterweight fight in the history of the promotion.
Meanwhile, Kron Gracie earned a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award after his impressive UFC debut, which saw him quickly take down Alex Caceres and then slickly submit him via rear-naked choke.
Also earning a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was Luke Sanders who stunned former bantamweight champion Renan Barao with a big left hand that knocked him out early in the second round. Barao has now lost six of last seven fights.
