Following last night’s UFC On ESPN 24 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Diego Ferreira will rue having missed weight by 4.5lbs as it made him ineligible to receive his share of the bonus money for the ‘Fight Of The Night’ award, so that meant Gregor Gillespie banked the full $100,000 instead.
Both fighters gave their all in the fight, keeping up an insane pace filled with multiple takedowns from Gillespie, followed by intense scrambling action that was thoroughly entertaining to watch.
Gillespie is known for his stellar cardio, but he looked completely spent as he returned to his corner after the first round, only to then continue at the same pace in the second round, which eventually led to Ferreira’s will breaking and Gillespie stopping him with ground-and-pound for the TKO victory.
One of the two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards went to Alex Morono, who made the most of his short-notice fight with Donald Cerrone by TKO’ing the veteran late in the first round with a barrage of blows on the feet after initially staggering him with a right hand.
Also earning a performance bonus was Carlston Harris, who made an impact in his UFC debut by tapping out Christian Aguilera with an anaconda choke in the prelims.
