Following last night’s UFC On ESPN 50 event in Nashville last night the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
The UFC brass opted to dish out five ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses on this occasion and one was snapped up by Tatiana Suarez, who was willing to strike with Jessica Andrade at times in the co-main event, but was also utilizing her strong wrestling game too in order to take control of the action.
That paid off for her in the second round when she smoothly returned Suarez to the mat and went to lock in a d’arce choke, before switching to a guillotine choke that force the former champion to tap out.
Dustin Jacoby also took home a bonus thanks to his swift finish against Kennedy Nzechukwu on the main card. Jacoby had been circling and working on the outside to start the fight, but it wasn’t long before he suddenly landed a big counter-right hand that sent his opponent to the canvas, where a barrage of ground-and-pound would seal a TKO finish at the 82 second mark.
Diego Lopes picked up his first win in the UFC and a bonus to go with it after he slickly applied a triangle armbar to submit Gavin Tucker just 98 seconds into their fight.
Carlston Harris had found himself having to defend from chokes against Jeremiah Wells in the opening round of their fight, and by the third round he appeared to be heading towards a decision loss when she suddenly turned the tables by defending a takedown and then going to the mat while setting up an anaconda choke that would render his opponent unconscious for an unexpected comeback victory.
The final bonus of the night went to the debuting Asu Almabaev, who opened up the evening’s fights nicely by delivering a 2nd round rear-naked choke finish against Ode Osbourne.
