There was no doubts that Ailin Perez had undergone a tough weight cut when she took to the scales at UFC Fight Night 243 in Paris, France today as she was visibly shaking while learning that she’d come in half a pound overweight for her fight with Dariya Zheleznyakova.
Perez looked a little unsteady as she first stepped onto the scales, but it really became apparent how physically depleted she was when she stepped back off them while shaking uncontrollably and continued to do so as she struggled to put one foot in front of the other while walking away.
The disturbing scene left fans wondering whether Perez would still be allowed to compete on Saturday night as she attempts to extend her current three-fight winning streak.
As things stand it appears that she will still fight Zheleznyakova at a catchweight, but will forfeit 20% of her purse for her weight-miss.
This is far from the first time that we’ve seen fighters appearing to be on the verge of collapse on-stage and it will only strengthen the argument that further regulation needs to be put in place to attempt to stop fighters from undergoing extreme weight-cuts before events.
