Valentina Shevchenko Vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk Back On For UFC 231

A flyweight title fight between Valentina Shevchenko and Joanna Jedrzeczjyk is back on according to new reports and will now take place at UFC 231 in Toronto, Canada on December 8th.

The fight for the vacant 125lb title had been tagged for this show in the past, but was then earmarked as a headlined for UFC 230 instead.

However, Jedrzejczyk had said she wanted a longer camp to prepare for the title opportunity at a new weight class, which the UFC opted not to grant her, instead drafting in former TUF finalist Sijara Eubanks instead.

That fight didn’t exactly get fans excited and so now the UFC have gone back to the drawing board and come up with a new plan, with a heavyweight title bout between Daniel Cormier and Derrick Lewis now headlining UFC 230, while the originally scheduled Shevchenko Vs Jedrzekczyk title encounter returns to UFC 231.

Shevchenko and Jedrzekczyk have a history together, having fought multiple times in kickboxing tournaments in the past, with shevchenko having won on every occasion, but since then JJ has made a major impact in MMA, winning the strawweight title and defending it multiple times, so she believes she can now get the best of her rival.

The fight is now expected to take co-main event status at UFC 231, serving as the lead-in to a featherweight title bout between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega.
