Volkan Oezdemir impressed tonight with an assured display of striking against Ilir Latifi at UFC Fight Night 156 that culminated in a second round knockout finish.
Round One:
Leg kick to start from Oezdemir. Another one connects. Left hand lands for Oezdemir and then a knee.
Latifi with a takedown attempt and then dumps Oezdemir upside down on the mat. Oezdemir recovers well though and is quickly back to his feet.
In close Latifi lands a right hand. Oezdemir moves in and lands a flying knee. Latifi presses Oezdemir up against the cage.
They soon break apart though and it’s now evident Latifi is sporting some damage below his eye.
Oezdemir looking to move into range for a takedown and eats a knee for his troubles as he does so. Up against the cage and Oezdemir lands with his shoulder as the action stalls.
Back at striking range Oezdemir lands a leg kick. Right hand for Latifi. Another good right gets through for him. Latifi slipss and Oezdemir moves forward trying to land a jumping knee that just misses.
Left hand for Latifi, then an uppercut – overhand combo. Latifi tries to grab ahold of a knee strike and fails. Oezdemir pressing Latifi against the cage. Hooks for Latifi as he pushes him off and that’s the final action of the round.
Round Two:
Right hand for Oezdemir. jab to the body. Now a leg kick. Right hand flashes out from Latifi. Left hook for Ozedemir.
Both exchange hooks. Body kick for Oezdemir. Solid one-two for Latifi. Punches being thrown without much landing. Oezdemir pressing forward though and lands a big knee that drops latifi.
latifi gets up to his feet under fire. Knees to the body from Oezdemir. One upstairs and thhen punches. Latifi backs away against the cage and eats another punch.
Uppercut lands for Oezdemir. Now a left hook. Latifi looking tired but the pressure continues. Body punch for Oezdemir. Knee strike to the body now.
Low leg kick for Oezdemir and Latifi buckles momentarily from thhat. Jab lands for Oezdemir and then a left hook behind it that hurts Latifi and sends him onto his hands and knees, with a final loaded up punch putting him face down on the canvas for the KO finish at 4.31mins of the second round.
