UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta fronted a press conference in New York yesterday to continue to push for mixed martial arts to be legalized in the state.
Fertitta focused primarily on the financial benefit that would come to the state of New York if the sport was legalized, pointing out that according to a new study the sport could bring as much as $135 million a year here based on the UFC holding five events (three upstate and two downstate) there, plus an increase in MMA related gyms and events from other promotions.
Later, in an interview with MMAfighting.com’s Ariel Helwani, Fertitta went on the talk more about the situation in New York, plus address a number of other talking points including the UFC’s expanded fight schedule for 2014, plus hinted that Georges St.Pierre’s biggest issue is that the he’s struggling to deal with the attention that comes from being the sport’s biggest star.
