Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller has claimed in a new interview that he could come out of retirement if upcoming surgeries to both his knees go well.
“I got some mileage left on me for 32,” Miller told FOX 11 in L.A. “Have I thought about fighting? All the time! Every time anybody brings it up.”
However, if he does come back he says, “it will be on my terms, not this corporate monarchy.”
Persumably that means he won’t be targeting a return to the UFC, but in fairness that’s a door that’s almost certainly closed to him anyway.
‘Mayhem’ was released from the promotion last year after a dismal 0-2 spell in the organization that lead to his retirement.
Since then his previously fragile relationship with UFC president Dana White has disintegrated, while his behaviour has become more erratic – most infamously demonstrated three months later when he was arrested after being found naked in a freshly spray-painted church.
Not longer after that he acted in a bizarre fashion during an interview with Ariel Helwani on ‘The MMA Hour’ show, eventually storming out of the studio after making a mess of the studio, and he showed a brief glimpse of that during yesterday’s interview when he suddenly pulled out a knife and made some impromptu stylistic amendments to a t-shirt he was wearing from a new clothing line he’s launching.
It may well just have been part of his schtick, but it wasn’t a particularly good idea to pull that kind of stunt on live TV.
It’s entirely possible that ‘Mayhem’ could yet return to the sport, but I’d take it with a pinch of salt for now, and given that he’s facing two knee ops if it does happen it’s unlikely to be any time soon.
