Raoni Barcelos showed off all aspects of his MMA game tonight at UFC Fight Night 211 as he dominated a lackluster Trevin Jones on the feet and the mat to win by unanimous decision.
Round One:
High kick attempt from Barcelos comes off the arm. He lands a hard right hand. Inside leg kick for Jones.
Front kick to the body for Barcelos. Missed head kick attempt from him. He throws another one that’s blocked.
Barcelos with a body punch and then that head kick attempt that still doesn’t connect. Barcelos drives into the clinch against the cage, but they soon break free.
Barcelos with another kick and Jones responds with one to the leg. Front kick to the body for Barcelos. Inside leg kick from Jones.
Barcelos right hand gets through again. Jones wings out a few hooks without landing cleanly. Barcelos goes for a takedown attempt and battles for it before managing to land it.
Jones on his knees as he looks to scramble up, but Barcelos keeps him down and then settles into half-guard.
Barcelos moves into full mount in the center of the Octagon. 30 seconds to go in the round and Jones is clinging on tightly.
Barcelos forces his head down and lands an elbow. Jones clings to his chest again and manages to ride out the remainder of the round.
Round Two:
High kick attempt from Barcelos blocked. They trade punches briefly. Kick from Barcelos almost caught.
Calf kick for Barcelos. He lands the right hook. A couple of hooks from Barcelos come up short but then he lands the right hand and follows up with a knee strike.
Barcelos into the clinch against the cage. He lands a right hand as they separate. Calf kick for Barcelos. He tries the head kick, but Jones still blocking it well.
Overhand right from Barcelos and Jones slowly sinks to the mat from that. Barcelos follows him down and looks to drop down a few elbows from half-guard.
Barcelos posturing up and dropped a few more elbows. Barcelos stands and then passes to side control. There’s a scramble and Barcelos takes his opponent’s back as Jones turtles up.
A few light left hooks from Barcelos to soften up his opponent. Now he’s back to half guard as Jones rolls to his back.
Barcelos with more elbows and punches. Jones gets him to full guard, but is bleeding from a cut to his scalp.
Final 10 seconds and Barcelos lands some very heavy punches.
Round Three:
Jones corner urging him to work and let his hands go, let’s see if he takes their advice.
Leg kick for Barcelos to start the final round. Nice left hand and a body kick for him. Jones with a body kick too.
Barcelos misses on a head kick attempt. Uppercut from range for Jones just grazing the target. Left hook for Barcelos but he’s a bit off-balance afterwards.
Barcelos with a flurry of strikes, with a hard uppercut in particular landing clean. Jones tries to go for a takedown, but Barcelos escapes.
Big punch from Barcelos. He lands another hard right hand and tries to trip his opponent to the mat, but that doesn’t pay off.
Left hand for Jones. He misses a couple of punches. Hard body punch from Barcelos. Another missed head kick from him.
Left hand for Jones. Right hook for him and Barcelos counters with a knee to the body, but it strays to the groin and forces a brief stoppage.
Barcelos with a very nice takedown in the center of the Octagon and ends up straight into full mount. Quality stuff from him. Barcelos lands elbow strikes. A couple of punches connect. He’s in side control now and looks for more elbows.
Davis has him back in half-guard now. A final flurry of left hands to the head from Barcelos in the final seconds of the fight.
Decision:
So Barcelos showed off his well-rounded skills to really good effect in this fight, while Davis just couldn’t seem to pull the trigger. No surprise that Barcelos wins a clean sweep unanimous decision victory on the scorecards (30-25, 30-27 x2).
