The UFC’s Apex facility in Las Vegas that has hosted many of their events over the past few years is set to be shut down for an extended period so that it can be expanded, including increasing the number of seats and improving the facilities.
“The Apex is going under construction,” Dana White revealed during an interview with TNT SPorts. “We’re actually expanding the Apex. It’s gonna be bigger and better. We’re doing like a $25 million expansion on the Apex.
“There’s gonna be hospitality, more bathrooms. Bigger. More seating. Yeah, we’re expanding.”
Work on the expansion means that the venue will be out of action from some time in November right the way through until the middle of next year.
That’s big news as it means the promotion will have no option but to go back out on the road far more often during that period than they have since Covid first hit back in March of 2020.
To give a sense of how big of a change that will be, there are currently 7 non-PPV events currently scheduled by the UFC up until mid-November, and 6 of them are at the Apex, with the only show that’s not being UFC Fight Night 243 in Paris, France on September 28th.
Many fans, and indeed fighters too, will no doubt be excited by this news as there have been complaints over the years about the lack of atmosphere at the Apex due to it’s limited capacity.
Despite that, UFC execs like the venue for it’s convenience as well as the fact that it’s more cost-effective and easier logistically than continually going from venue-to-venue around North America and beyond as they have done in the past.
And given the money they are now pouring into the Apex it seems like they intend to continue making frequent use of the facility once it gets back up and running next year.
