Prelims:

Miesha Tate defeats Sara McMann by majority decision (29-28, 29-27, 28-28)

Impressive comeback from Tate here. McMann proved herself to be the more powerful striker early in the opening round, momentarily buckling Tate’s legs with a right hand and then following up with more strikes that put her on the canvas. McMann was able to stay on top though she had to defend submission attempts from her game opponent at times. In the second McMann decided to keep the fight on the feet and looked comfortable doing so, while Tate was struggling to find her range and make an impact on the fight. However, as the minute ticked by suddenly Tate got the bit between her teeth and pressed forward aggressively with strikes. That caused McMann to suddenly look for a takedown, but Tate locked in a guillotine choke attempt as they went to ground and it looked to have her in trouble, but the bell sounded just as Tate was moving to mount. Tate came out aggressively again at the start of the third round and McMann used her momentum to initiate a throw, but Tate scrambled and ended up on top. This was a big moment for the former Strikeforce champ and she didn’t waste it, ensuring that she stayed on top, eventually moving to side control and doing enough to keep the ref from standing them up. As dominant as she can be on top, McMann was running out of ideas when placed on her back and so the round, and indeed the fight was now Tate’s.

Derek Brunson defeats Ed Herman by TKO at 0.36mins of Rd1

Brunson made short work of Herman, clocking him with a big overhand left early then another hard left hand sent him stumbling backwards. Brunson followed Herman with another shot landing and as he crumbled to the mat a few more punches was all that was required to seal the TKO win with 36 seconds on the clock.

John Lineker defeats Ian McCall by unanimous decision (29-28 x3)

Interesting fight here as McCall tried to use his movement and speed to combat the big power possessed by Lineker. In the first round ‘Uncle Creepy’ had his most success in that regard, steering clear of his opponents offense and enjoying a period of control on the mat. Lineker started to find his mark in the second round though and also began shutting down the takedown attempts – even making McCall pay for them with dangerous guillotine choke attempts. Early in the third McCall began to find success with body kicks, but then Lineker started to wade in swinging for the fences. McCall got caught and was suddenly on wobbled legs. Lineker continued to come forward, but McCall did well to stay on his feet under duress and even started trading in the pocket before wisely moving away. That swung the momentum of the round firmly in Lineker’s favor though and he continued to remain in the charge for the remainder of the fight to emerge with a unanimous decision victory.

Rafael Natal defeats Tom Watson by unanimous decision (30-27 x2, 30-26)

Natal was able to oustrike Watson over the course of three rounds here with hard punches and kicks to the body and legs, while also mixing in the occasional takedown into the bargain too en-route to a comfortable decision victory.

Diego Brandao vs. Jimy Hettes

Fight canceled after Hettes fell ill on the day of the fight with reports suggesting that he may have passed out backstage before the event.

Ildemar Alcantara defeats Richardson Moreira by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29)

The first round here was fairly uneventful, and it didn’t get much better later on but Alcantara did enough in the later rounds to claim a split decision victory.

Thiago Santos defeats Andy Enz via TKO at 1.56mins of Rd1

Santos turned up the aggression early here and after some good work to the body he unleashed a barrage of blows that sent Enz to the mat.   Ground and pound followed until the referee called an end to the fight.
