The women’s division doesn’t have bad fighters, just bad game plans.
If anyone has a shot at beating Ronda, it is Holly Holm. She understands the first step to beating Ronda – do not get close to her. Holm has the footwork and reach to keep Rousey at bay long enough to find some weaknesses. Zingano, Tate, Davis, all at some point rushed Rousey. Holly has some speed to tag Ronda a couple of times. The saying of punching a ju jitsu black belt in the face turns them into a brown belt should also apply to Judokas. A few solid connections would make her technique drop a few notches and take the frustration up a few. It’s hard to find a weakness in someone when they fight for less than a minute. Keeping the distance and getting it out of the first round would at least give other competitors some tape to watch. Holm was under a lot of pressure due to the hype behind her, and she did fine for her debut. She kept Pennington at bay and landed a lot of her own shots. Pennington has a good chin so maybe headhunting was not the best option, but it got the job done. If she can make that head kick a little less telegraphed, UFC fans could be seeing a more knockouts in the women’s division.
