An Idiot’s Guide to Aussie and Kiwi Fighters UFC Fight Night 65: Part 2

Underdog Down under

Ben Nguyen is a name that could well have been Aussie, due to the large number of Vietnamese migrants in the nation. He is, however, born in South Dakota USA. Ben left home in 2012 to Thailand to master the art of Muay Thai then moved down under to Brisbane to further his fighting career. Never mind his birth country, his fight career is now predominately in Oceania thus officially an adopted Aussie fighter.

This will be Ben’s debut UFC fight. Ben had been a fairly successful fighter since turning professional in 2006. His 13 wins out of 18 fights is respectable, but he caught the world’s attention accidently when matched up with Julian Rabaud in Mar 2014. In the fight weight in, the heavily tattooed Rabaud famously walked Nguyen off the stage in an aggressive bullying manner, only to get knocked out spectacularly in the Octagon within 30 seconds into the match. The story went viral via social media since everyone loves watching a bully take a knockout punch.
