Four most shocking MMA Upsets of 2014

Bellator 125 Headliner Melvin Manhoef: Doug Marshall's Best Chance ...

Joe Schilling vs. Melvin Manhoef

On paper, Bellator 131’s match-up between Joe Schilling and Melvin Manhoef was one that left some fans scratching their heads.

Manhoef was widely viewed as one of MMA’s premier knockout artists who boasted a 29-11-1

Schilling, on the other hand, came into the bout with a 1-3 MMA record and had not fought in an MMA bout since September 2008.

By taking only these stats into account, fans could not be blamed for thinking that Manhoef vs. Schilling was a complete mismatch that Manhoef would breeze through.

That was not the case, however, as Schilling knocked Manhoef out in the second round.

It was not as farfetched an ending as the MMA stats showed given that both fighters had solid kickboxing careers and were more than likely going to keep their fight on the feet.

While it is rare to see Manhoef knocked out in MMA competition, the fact it was against a professional kickboxer like Schilling does not make it the biggest upset of the year, but an upset nonetheless.
