Four Things To Look Out For At UFC Fight Night 50

Ronaldo Jacaré | GRACIEMAG

The Winner Of Jacare Vs. Mousasi May Deserve A Title Shot

Both Souza and Mousasi have looked impressive as of late. “Jacare” decimated Yushin Okami and then outclassed Francis Carmont, while Mousasi made easy work of Mark Munoz at UFC Fight Night 41 in Berlin.

This fight is a rematch between two former Strikeforce champions. Mousasi won their first meeting with a knockout via upkick, so you can bet Souza will be hell-bent on getting revenge in Connecticut. With his world-class Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills, he may be looking to grapple with “the Dreamcatcher,” but Mousasi is no slouch in that department.

Souza also brings incredible strength and striking power, but Mousasi is well known for both his kickboxing and boxing expertise. Given the level of competition and talent these men possess, it’s only logical that the winner of this bout receives a fight with the winner of UFC 181’s main event between champion Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort.

They could fight the winner of the proposed Luke Rockhold vs. Lyoto Machida bout for a title shot, but “Jacare” will be calling out for his chance at gold should he win. With a longer win streak, he may be a bit more deserving than Mousasi. Still, it’d be tough to deny the winner of this pivotal bout ta shot.

There just aren’t many places for them to go with a win, and if Weidman gets past Belfort, he should receive a fresh and new challenge. Based on how “Jacare” and Mousasi have performed lately, both fights would be an excellent PPV headliner somewhere down the line.
