Six Things We Learned From UFC 177 – Event Recap

TPF champ Soto fights MFC champ Birchak at UFC 177

Joe Soto Will Be A Legit UFC Bantamweight

Former Bellator featherweight champion Joe Soto filled in as a (very) late replacement for Barao on Saturday, and he actually put forth a very valiant showing in defeat at the hands of the world’s No. 1-ranked bantamweight. Soto had excellent head movement, and he tagged Dillashaw with several right hands to give the champ a black eye.

He was a lot more effective than Barao was when he lost the belt to Dillashaw at UFC 173 in May, and even though he ultimately succumbed to the volume, speed, and precision of the champ, he’s undoubtedly destined for a solid run in the UFC. The future should be bright for Soto at 135 pounds, and he proved that by hanging tough when the pressure was on at UFC 177.
