The Aftermath Articles: UFC 179 Six harsh but honest questions.

Ouch! Here's what Wilson Reis did to Scott Jorgensen's ribs at UFC ...

Is young guns getting old?

He didn’t look horrible in there and almost beat Wilson Reis.  Would a younger Jorgenson have been a little faster in going after a wounded Reis and finished him?  Scott Jorgenson has faced some of the best fighters in the lighter weight classes, Urijah Faber, Dominick Cruz, Renan Barao, Brad Pickett, Eddie Wineland and Takeya Mizugaki.  When facing the top-tier talent though, he has been on the losing end more often than not.  His winning streak of 2009-2010 leading to a title fight and loss to Dominick Cruz was probably the peak of Scott Jorgenson’s career.  I am not taking away from that work of art by Wilson.  He recovered from being dropped early.  That kick was perfect and the photos show it, he went high twice and smashed his body the third time.  The sound of that kick was ferocious.  He was also able to sense the hurt and explode for the finish.  He may have cracked the top 15.  Scotty has now gone 1 and 4 in his last five.  His UFC record is actually only a 4 and 6.  I wouldn’t even call him a gate keeper at this point.  I wouldn’t quite go as far as to say he should hang them up.  Three out of his last four loses are all by submissions, and at least not knockouts.  It may only be a matter of time before those start happening though.
