Bruno Silva seemed to be coming off second best against Cody Durden tonight at UFC On ESPN 60, right up until he suddenly landed a momentum-shifting uppercut in the 2nd round that dropped his rival and paved the way for a TKO victory.
Round One:
Durden steps in to a heavy body kick to start. Leg kicks exchanged. Fast punches from both fighters. Low kick from Silva.
Missed punch from Durden and Silva clinches up and turns his opponent into the cage. Durden reverses the position. Durden fails on a trip takedown, but then lands a coupe of punches as they back away from the clinch.
Hard exchange in close and Durden threw an uppercut in there. Another good connection from Durden. Real risk of head clashes with the way these two are pressing head-first into close quarters to throw strikes.
Low kick from Durden and a punch over the top from Silva. Hard left and a right from Durden. Silva comes up short with punches and Durden fires back and lands with a couple of punches.
Heavy counter-right from Durden as Silva was trying to attack. Slapping left from Durden and Silva clutches at his eye and signals to the ref which forces a brief stoppage for what proves to be an accidental eyepoke.
Silva takes a couple of minutes to recover and then they get back to it.
Durden immediately pressing forward on the attack, but then Silva lands a clean punch. leg kick for Silva.
Durden surges forward to land a big spinning kick to the body. The two are still looking to exchange as the round ends.
Round Two:
Calf kick for Silva. Durden with a left hook and Silva looked hurt for a moment and tries to dive in for a takedown.
Durden counters with an anaconda choke attempt but Silva gets out. Durden goes for the same submission again, but Silva manages to escape quickly again. Durden thinking about it for a third time, but Silva rolls to his back.
Durden opts to settle into half-guard here. Silva gets back to full guard and then tries to stand against the cage. Durden staying on him though. Silva stands, but gets dragged down again to his knees.
Durden forces Silva to the mat, Silva pops back up again and Durden lands a knee to the head. Silva able to break away to striking range.
Huge uppercut from Silva and Durden drops to the mat as his mouthpiece goes flying! Silva is immediately on him dropping down huge elbows and punches. Durden is getting bloodied up and is looking over at the ref, who steps in to wave off the fight. Big come-from-behind TKO victory for Silva at 2.58mins of the 2nd round.
