UFC Middleweight veteran Gerald Meerschaert will attempt to dig himself out of a five-fight losing slump when he moves up to light-heavyweight to face Julius Walker at UFC Fight Night 290 in Las Vegas on October 10th.
The 38-year-old Meerschaert’s form has always been inconsistent during his 12-14 run in the Octagon over the past decade, but it’s really gone badly off the rails since a submission loss to Reiner de Ridder back in 2024.
Last year Meerschaert lost all three of his bouts against Brad Tavares, Michal Oleksiejczuk and Kyle Daukaus, while back in May he had to fight Jacob Malkoun at a 190lb catchweight after missing the 186lb limit, and went on to lost by decision.
At this late stage in the career Meerschaert will now have to hit the ground running up at 205lbs in order to keep his spot on the roster when he goes up against the 27-year-old Walker, whose also struggling to keep in the win column.
In fact, Walker has only picked up one victory in his four UFC fights to date, and worryingly has already been TKO’d by Dustin Jacoby in the 2nd round and KO’d by Abdul-Rakhman Yakhyaec in just 8 seconds so far this year.
