Two highly ranked middleweight stars Khamzat Chimaev and Caio Borralho have both given their opinions on who they would like to fight next in the Octagon.
“I’m ready. Let me know when you are,” Khamzat wrote on social media, before listing his potential opponents as:
“Sean [Strickland]
Dricus [Du Plessis]
Nassourdine [Imavov]
Caio [Borralho]”
Notable omissions from former champ Khamzat’s list are the No.4 ranked Joe Pyfer and No.5 placed Brendan Allen, instead adding the No.6 ranked Caio Borralho instead, but he doesn’t explain why.
Speaking of Borralho, he too has separately been giving his thoughts on who he’d like to fight next, and funnily enough he seems to be targeting the two fighters that Khamzat overlooked.
““I think [I’m] one or two more on the way to the belt,” Borralho told mmafighting.com. “I’m just waiting for the name. But we have Pyfer, we have Brendan Allen. Both of them I can fight. They can fight between two of them, or I can fight both of them. I think we’re in the top of the division, so anyone that wins the next fight may be the one next for the title shot.”
It’s worth noting that Borralho believes that Khamzat shouldn’t get the next shot at the belt, instead believing that Nassourdine Imavov has earned that right.
“I think Imavov deserves the title next,” Borralho said. “He already has a history with Strickland, that he lost in a light heavyweight fight, in a short-notice fight for Strickland and I think he did everything that he needed to deserve the title shot, so I think he needs to be the one next.”
