Bryce Mitchell dared to go to the mat with BJJ ace Kron Gracie multiple times tonight at UFC 310 and was rewarded for his efforts in the third round when he KO’d him with a couple of brutal elbow strikes.
Round One:
Leg kicks exchanged to start. Solid calf kick from Mitchell. Knees to the body for Mitchell and then gets a takedown.
Mitchell in half-guard near the center of the Octagon. Gracie gets him to his full guard. Short right hand from Mitchell as he patiently works on top. Now a series of left hands to the body. Crowd starting to get restless at the lack of action, but we’re only half-way through the opening round!
Short elbow for Mitchell. Body-head combo. Nothing really damaging landed so far though. Gracie unable to get anything going from his back either as the round draws to a close.
Round Two:
Kick for Mitchell to start the second. Gracie gets a punch through the guard. One-two for Mitchell. Now a step-in knee to the body.
Gracie pulls guard. Mitchell with a few punches to the body. Gracie with a closed guard here. Not much happening and Mitchell opts to stand back up.
Gracie punches his way into the clinch and then pulls guard again. Odd considering he’s not doing anything from his back.
Mitchell settling into his guard, but then Gracie finally does something offensive, going for a possible triangle choke. He’s trying for an armbar now. He’s not quite got it however.
Gracie stays at it though and late in the round he improves his position and commits fully to the armbar. Mitchell able to escape though and starts landing strikes as Gracie turtles up.
Round Three:
Mitchell with a couple of one-twos. Gracie looks to pulls guard yet again in the center of the Octagon. He quickly regrets it though as Mitchell slams him to the mat and then blasts him with two thumping elbows that seem to render him unconscious for a moment, and the ref dives in to end the fight! Mitchell wins by KO at 0.39mins of the third round.
