Dricus Du Plessis Win Appears To Pave The Way For Jiri Prochazka Move To 185lbs

After having now lost twice to Alex Pereira in 205lb title fights, former champion Jiri Prochazka appears to now be contemplating a move down to middleweight, and the fact that Dricus du Plessis just successfully defended his title there may have sealed the deal.

“I’m already thinking that I’d like to fight again,” Prochazka said on his YouTube channel, a couple of months on from his 2nd round TKO loss to Pereira at UFC 303.

“I’ve been considering that if Adesanya wins, I’ll stay in the light heavyweight division, but if Du Plessis wins, I’ll follow him. I’ll clear things up a bit there and take the belt.

“It would certainly be a challenge for me to go for the belt in the (middleweight) division and then move (back) up.”

DDP has since gone on to win that fight, so it seems like Prochazka may well now forge ahead with his plan to mount a title challenge at 185lbs.

However, Pereira has since said he’d like to drop down to middleweight to challenge DDP for the title, and du Plessis having countered that by saying he’d move up to 205lbs to challenge him for his title instead.

As such it seems that the path to title contention might not be as clear as Prochazka may have hoped, so we’ll have to wait and see what he decides to do next.
