A light-heavyweight clash between Jan Blachowicz and Aleksander Rakic has been rescheduled to headline UFC Fight Night 209 on May 14th.
The bout had originally been earmarked for UFC On ESPN 33 in March, before Blachowicz had to withdraw due to a neck injury.
The No.1 ranked contender in the weight lcass, Blachowicz will be fighting for the first time since losing the light-heavyweight title to Glover Teixeira, who submitted him with a rear-naked choke back in October of last year.
Blachowicz had seized the belt one fight earlier when he earned an upset win over middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who had been attempting to step up to light-heavyweight in a super-fight bid to become a double-champion.
The 39-year-old Blachowicz’s unanimous decision victory that night was the culmination of a five-fight winning streak that had also seen him defeat the likes of Luke Rockhold, Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, Corey Anderson and Dominick Reyes.
As for Rakic, he’s currently on a two fight winning streak, having racked up unanimous decision wins over Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos.
One fight prior, Rakic had lost out by split decision to Volkan Oezdemir, but he still holds a 6-1 record overall in the UFC and as such is currently placed No.6 in the 205lb rankings.
