Rinya Nakamura dominanted Fernie Garcia on the mat today at UFC Fight Night 225 to win by unanimous decision.
Round One:
Nakamura feeling out with the jab without getting into range to really land it yet. He misses with a jab to the body.
Nakamura get got by a nice counter-punch. Body kick for Nakamura. Nakamura drives in for his first takedown attempt, works hard for it and gets Garcia down, but he’s still on a knee and gradually stands back up. However, not for long as Nakamura airmails him back to the canvas.
Nakamura working from half-guard now. He nicely passes to side control and then north-south position. He starts to work to trap an arm from here. He gets it for a moment then loses it. However, Nakamura then goes for the choke from north-south. Garcia surviving though and Nakamura lets go of it.
Elbow strike to the body from Nakamura. He hooks one leg and looks to set up an armbar, but lets go of that attempt and goes to side control. Final seconds of the round and now Nakamura starts raining down some heavy elbow strikes.
Round Two:
Punch lands for Garcia as he starts to pplay some pressure. Kick from Nakamura. Body kick for Nakamura. Inside leg kick from Garcia. Head kick attempt from Nakamura, but he slipped as it was coming off the guard.
Garcia misses on a couple of hooks but finds a home for a body kick. Calf kick from Garcia. Fast jab for Nakamura and a low kick.
Head kick attempt from Nakamura but eats a jab on the counter. Nakamura suddenly into a takedown and lands it well. Garcia with a guillotine choke. It looks tight but Nakamura scrambles to thwart that. Garcia still holding on but Nakamura gets free and ends up back in north-south position.
Nakamura trapping an arm under his leg. Now he’s working for a straight armbar. Garcia gets his arm free and survives for now as the round comes to an end.
Round Three:
Garcia throwing out some solid punches but not quite finding his range. Nakamura with a powerful hook but goes whistling past the target.
Leg kick for Nakamura. Jab for him. Right hands gets through for Garcia. Head kick attempts from both men. Right hand lands for Garcia. Nakamura slickly in on another successful takedown and is now in side control.
Nakamura goes knee on belly and tries to step over and look for a possible arm-triangle. now he’s looking to take teh back, but ends up back in side control. Nakamura goes for an armbar and drops back with it, but it’s not quite secured and he gives up on it and goes back to controlling on top.
Garcia able to get back up now, but Nakamura is still clinched against the cage. Garcia manages to punch his way out of that and presses forward, but Nakamura threatens with a head kick.
Decision:
Nakamura completely dominated the fight then without managing to find a finish along the way, so he settles for a unanimous decision victory (30-26, 30-27 x2).
