Frankie Edgar defeats Chad Mendes by KO at 2.28mins of Rd1
Ryan Hall defeats Artem Lobov by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26 x2)
Tony Ferguson defeats Edson Barboza by submission (d’arce choke) at 2.54mins of Rd2
Evan Dunham defeats Joe Lauzon by unanimous decision (30-26 x2, 30-27)
Tatsuya Kawajiri defeats Jason Knight by unanimous decision (30-27 x3)
Late replacement Knight showed terrific dexerity in his lower limbs as he tried to utilize the rubber guard against Kawajiri in this fight, but it proved not to be enough. The Japanese veteran was simply too strong and savvy for him, landing takedowns with ease and controlling the action on the mat for long spells. He wasn’t able to pass guard as much as he’d have liked, but Kawajiri did open up some cuts with ground and pound punches and elbows en-route to a clean sweep on the scorecards.
Julian Erosa defeats Marcin Wrzosek by split decision (29-28 x2, 28-29)
Close fight in the main card opener, especially in the opening round which could have gone either way with Wrzosek looking the busier of the two and having a little more control in the clinch, though Erosa did threaten with a couple of brief submission include a d’arce choke. The second round was Wrzosek’s though as he got the edge in the striking exchanges and landed a couple of takedowns. Erosa came back into the fight in the final five minutes though, finally starting to find a home for his punches on the feet and even a couple of flying knees, while getting a couple of takedowns and stuffing some of his opponents attempts. So Erosa gets the final round and that helps him just scrape past Wrzoesek on the scorecards by a split decision verdict.
