Fight Report

Prelims:

Demian Maia defeats Matt Brown by submission (rear-naked choke) at 4.31mins of Rd3

Maia completely dominated Brown on the mat from start to finish in this fight, but he had to wait until the fight had just 29 seconds left to go before he finally managed to sneak an arm under Brown’s chin for the rear-naked choke finish.

Thiago Santos defeats Nate Marquardt by KO at 3.39mins of Rd1

Santos dismantled Marquardt’s suspect chin early in this fight, first cracking him with a left hook that staggered him back against the cage. Santos didn’t give Marquardt a chance to catch his breath when he stood back up, blasting him with more left and rights up against the cage, with a left connecting cleanly and sending Marquardt slumping to his knees for the KO finish.

Francisco Trinaldo defeats Yancy Medeiros by unanimous decision (29-26, 30-27, 30-26)

This was a wild scrap, and Trinaldo had the upper hand for most of it as he swung for the fences from start to finish. His left hand in particular landed some crushing blows to the head of Meideiros who was badly rocked at times, but he refused to give in even when he could barely keep his legs under himself. That almost paid of for him late in the second when he dropped Trinaldo, but the Brazilian got straight back on the offensive in the third round and only tremendous heart and a great chin kept Medeiros hanging on until the end.

John Lineker defeats Rob Font by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-26)

Lineker had the greater firepower here as he continually stalked Font on the feet and landed the heavier blows. As the fight progressed Font would start to pull guard to avoid having to face his opponent’s offensive threat on the feet. That helped him make it to the final bell, but there was no doubt who was going to get their hand raised here.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeats Patrick Cummins by TKO at 4.52mins of R1

Wow, Nogueira proves he still has something left to offer as he approaches 40 years of age with a first round TKO victory against Cummins. A right hook from Nogueira rocked his opponent mid-way through the round, and follow-up punches took him to his knees. Cummins survived that onslaught, but upon getting back upright he was met by a series of left hands from Nogueira that put him on the verge of being knocked out, and the referee stepped in to save him from further punishment.

Sergio Moraes vs Luan Chagas ruled a split draw (28-28, 29-28, 28-29)
