We have to consider how Kelvin beat Jake Ellenburger instead of Jake beating himself.
Ellenburger didn’t lose the fight for himself this time. His last two outings Jake did not look like a Juggernaut . He froze up, stopped fighting, and started defending. His fight with Kelvin was a different story. He was not looking to survive. He was still looking for the the win until he got choked out. He was actually landing the harder shots and that slam looked like it was going to change the momentum of the fight. Kelvin is simply the better, faster, fighter. He did everything right in that scramble and subsequent submission. Ellenburger isn’t done either. He can still beat a lot of the top ten. He did make mistakes in his last two fights but they were against the number one and number two fighters in the welterweight division. If Ellenberger had choked again and gone into his defensive shell, a reasonable claim could be made that we didn’t see Kelvin get truly tested and he isn’t ready for the top ten. Kelvin is just that good, and with so much untapped potential. He is ready to be in top ten and fighting the top five. He fights well under pressure and is comfortable as the underdog. It’s time to throw him to the wolves.
