5 things to consider after this weekend: The Aftermath Articles

Will Brooks vs. Michael Chandler co-headlines 'Bellator 131: Tito ...

Bellator should consider giving the old gaurd co-main event slots

If they do not want to be known soley as a company for UFC rejects they should consider giving their younger talent top billing while they use the veterans for promotion.  People will tune in to see thier favorites.  If they are already watching they will continue to watch the main event, especially if thier is a championship involved.  If the entire event wasn’t riding on the shoulders of two guys who physically can’t be as exciting as younger, faster, more explosive fighters they probably would resort to cheap tactics for ratings.  Bonnar;s bad acting and dramatic fall after lose followed by Ortiz’s forced water throwing and hand gestures were as bad as teenagers acting out for attention.  They felt like they were doing the right thing for the company but it just made them and bellator look bad.  If they didn’t have the pressure of carrying the event they might stick to fighting.  Bellator also doesn’t want to alienate the young talent they are developing.  Will Brooks already shared some resentment about being second billing.  He had a spectacular finish and didn’t have to create post fight hype like Tito.  That ending, of having Chandler try to wave off the fight while standing, should be what everyone was talking about.  Will Brooks proved he deserves to be champion, and with the right push he could be a rating champion as well.
