UFC 170: Stephen Thompson vs. Robert Whittaker Fight Video

Stephen Thompson

Before transitioning to MMA Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson was undefeated through 37 amateur and 20 professional kickboxing matches with 28 wins by knockout. He is currently 10-1 in mixed martial arts with six finishes. He burst on to the UFC scene with a stunning head kick knockout of Dan Stittgen back in 2012. Back then he was already being heralded as the next big thing at welterweight until he suffered the first loss of his career to the surging UFC veteran Matt Brown.

Thompson started training karate at the age of three, he has a highly advanced stand up game and comes with kicks from all angles. Since his first professional loss he has come back strong and gone on a 4-0 run, his latest victory coming against Patrick Cote at UFC 178. He made it look effortless as he beautifully out struck the veteran Cote to earn the unanimous decision.

At 32 years old Wonderboy is just entering his MMA prime. His stand-up ability will give anyone at welterweight a tough night and his all-round MMA game is continuing to evolve. His spectacular arsenal of kicks have already made the South Carolina native a fan favourite and a must see commodity in the UFC. He was expected to face Brandon Thatch on February 14th at UFC fight night 60 in a bout that would have been an excellent text for both men, however he had to withdraw from the contest due to a fractured rib. When he returns from injury he will look to extend his four fight unbeaten streak and could challenge for a title sometime in 2016.
