Dustin Jacoby ensured his fight with Vitor Petrino didn’t need to go to a judges decision tonight at UFC On ESPN 63 when he landed a stunning knockout blow inside the final 90 seconds of the bout.
Round One
cautious opening minute with only a light inside leg kick from Petrino being thrown.
Calf kick for Jacoby. Harder low kick from Petrino now. Petrino with a few power punches that miss the target. Low kick from Jacoby.
Petrino with a hard punch down the pipe that was partially blocked, but Jacoby’s legs still buckled momentarily.
High kick attempt from Petrino. Low kick from Jacoby. Another lands. Now Petrino with a leg kick. Jacoby gets a punch through as Petrino moves in trying for a takedown. Petrino backs off that attempt.
Another low kick for Jacoby. Jacoby’s shin is bleeding now. Late in the round Jacoby times a jab nicely and Petrino misses on a kick.
Round Two:
Petrino pressures early in the second round. He lands a jab. Now a big right misses and he continues to unleash a flurry of strikes, but Jacoby covered up to absorb most of that.
Leg kick for Jacoby. He lands another to the calf this time. Glancing right and left hand from Petrino.
Jab for Petrino. Now a body shot from him. Calf kick for Jacoby. Body kick from Petrino. Left hook for Petrino and now a right hand that forces Jacoby to back up for a moment.
leg kick for Petrino. Inside leg kick from Jacoby. He lands another low kick and Petrino gets a punch through.
Final minute of the round. Spinning back kick to the body misses for Jacoby. A couple of straight punches from Petrino don’t quite find the mark cleanly and a punch lands from Jacoby in return. Step-in jab from Petrino at the end of the round.
Round Three:
Inside leg kick from Jacoby. Petrino trying for a possible takedown now, but Jacoby fends it off and clinches him up against the cage.
Petrino pushes him away. Step-in jab for Petrino. Hard counter-left from Petrino as Jacoby threw a punch.
Jacoby feeling out with the jab. Petrino just misses with power shots. Now a takedown from Petrino gets Jacoby down for a moment, but he gets straight back up. Petrino walks him over to the cage and has the back. Jacoby turns into him though and then gets away.
Leg kick for Jacoby. Petrino with a jab. Reaching right hand lands for Petrino. another right for him. Jacoby reaches for a leg but then comes back upstairs.
Just as it looks like we’ll be heading to the scorecards in this fight, Jacoby suddenly uncorks a huge straight right that lands cleanly to the jaw-line and knocks Petrino out cold at 3.44mins of the final round!
