A bantamweight fight between Cory Sandhagen and Song Yadong has been targeted to headline UFC Fight Night 211 on September 17th at a destination still to be confirmed.
Sandhagen is currently as the UFC’s No.4 ranked 135lb’er, although he is actually coming off back-to-back wins in the past year.
His first loss came via split decision in a five-round clash with former champion TJ Dillashaw last July.
Dillashaw suffered a knee injury during the fight, which led to him missing out on the opportunity to fight Petr Yan for the interim title a few months later.
Instead it was Sandhagen who stepped into his place, but he lost to Yan by unanimous decision.
Prior to those two losses, Sandhagen had been on a 7-1 run in the UFC and was coming off back-to-back victories via strikes against Marlon Moraes and Frankie Edgar.
As for Yadong, he is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, with a split decision victory over Casey Kenney being followed up by a TKO stoppage of Julio Arce and a knockout win against Marlon Moraes.
With an overall 8-1-1 record in the promotion, Yadong has now risen up to No.9 in the rankings, with a big chance to jump much higher up the pecking order if he can get the better of Sandhagen.
